Chapter 3 They Finally Meet
Kristy’s sweet, childish voice shocked everyone present.
Oliver and the bodyguards looked at Nigel in astonishment.
Since when did Nigel have a girl?
Nigel stared at Kristy.
She was pretty, with her hair scattered on her shoulders, crystal-clear eyes, and a fleshy face. Young as she was, she was already stunningly beautiful.
Yet she just called him her daddy.
Nigel frowned. “I’m not your…”
Before he could finish speaking, she stepped forward and clutched his finger. “Daddy, say no more. Hayden just texted me, saying that
Mommy and him were surrounded. If we waste any more time, they will start beating up people!”
Oliver was aside, gossipy.
He was stunned and thought, “Did she mean they were about to get beaten up?”
Nigel’s eyes fell on Kristy’s small hand.holding his big hand. His eyes darkened, and he involuntarily softened his voice. He said, “Who is your mommy?”
The Intercontinental Hotel’s back garden was a mess.
More than a dozen bodyguards fell to the ground, black and blue, and they were in so much pain that they couldn’t get up at all.
Yasmin was thrown in the water. She paddled hard to avoid being swept away by the current, screaming with shame and fury, “How dare you do this to me, Bridget! Mrs. Moyer will deal with you! And… Nigel won’t let you off! You’re doomed! Your family is doomed!”
Bridget clapped her hands calmly and nodded to Liam, saying in a cool voice, “Sorry to ruin Mrs. Moyer’s birthday party.”
Liam, the only one who had not been beaten, stood nearby, looking at Bridget in shock and horror.
Liam thought, “Isn’t she famous for being eye candy? How can she be
so good at fighting?”
Bridget walked out while holding Hayden’s hand.
Now that Nigel wouldn’t be here, her staying here was pointless.
Hayden frowned and asked worriedly, “Mommy, now that you hit that Yasmin woman, will Daddy’s family really go after us?”
Bridget knew that Hayden was pre-matured and had already been looking out for the family at a young age. She comforted him, “There won’t be any misunderstanding once we see your Daddy.”
Even though Nigel had fallen for another woman, the kids were his still. She knew Nigel well enough to know that he wouldn’t give them a hard time.
Half an hour later, Bridget rode home, entering a three-story detached
Scarcely had she entered the room when she was shocked by what she
A beautiful man was lying on the sofa in the living room. His eyes were wide and out of focus, his face was deadly pale, and his shirt was stained with scarlet blood, and the scene was terrifying.
Anyone who came home would cry out in horror at the sight.
The corners of Bridget’s mouth twitched, and Hayden walked over, helplessly. He crouched down next to the “dead body”, resting his chin and looking into the “dead man””‘s eyes.
Thirty seconds later, the man blinked his sore eyes and asked earnestly, “Bridget, am I good at acting as a corpse? The second you walked in the door, did you feel like you were walking into a crime scene?”
Bridget was speechless.
It was Wilfred Lane, Bridget’s father a Z-list actor.
Bridget took her mother’s last name, because Wilfred was a live-in son- in-law, usually known as the kept man.
His face was more recognizable than an A-lister’s. His features were delicate, his eyes flirtatious, sometimes bright and sometimes dark, and his body tall. Time did not take away his charm at all. Instead, he was nothing but handsome.
It was a pity that he never got to be popular.
Luckily, he had been acting for over twenty years and had some savings. The villa was his private property, so it was not confiscated when he was evicted from the Cole family.
He held the script and boasted, “I may be just a supporting role in this show, yet I’m the center of focus! I’m the core of the show! I’m nothing but important…”
Bridget said, “Tell me. How many scenes do you have in the show?”
Wilfred said after a moment of silence, “One.”
Bridget was slack-jawed.
She thought, “So, you die at the beginning of the show?”
Wilfred said with great discontent, “What’s that look on your face? I may only be in one scene, but in this mystery, I’m the victim! The rest of the show is all about finding my killer!”
Bridget was speechless.
Wilfred’s phone rang suddenly. While he was answering the phone, Bridget led Hayden to the room. They had hardly entered the bedroom when they heard Wilfred’s voice rising.
“What? I’m out? But why, director? I analyzed the character in detail. I even wrote him a bio! I swear that I’ll bring the corpse to life…”
The director’s roar came through the phone. “You wrote a bio for a corpse? What the fuck is wrong with you?”
Wilfred sighed, “You won’t even let me play a corpse?”
The director was silent for a second and then said, “Fuck it. I’ll be honest with you. Somehow, your daughter offended the Moyer family, and no crew will accept you in a short time. I’m kind enough to remind you to leave if you still want to survive. You can’t afford to mess with the Moyer family. I’m afraid that your acting career is over. I have to
Wilfred hurriedly clicked on Line and found that his agent had sent him a message, canceling all the recent trips.
Wilfred frowned. After a while, he slowly raised his head and looked at Bridget, saying with determination, “Don’t be afraid, Bridget. So what if it’s the Moyer family? You have me no matter what.”
Hayden was slightly stunned. All of a sudden, Wilfred looked taller and more upright in his eyes.
Yet in the next second, Hayden’s short illusion was shattered. Wilfred frowned and asked, “Do you think we should sell the villa? So that we’ll have some money with us when fleeing…”
Hayden was speechless.
He thought, “I knew it! Grandpa is never reliable!”
Bridget’s chin was tightened.
Though Wilfred never looked serious, actually, he dug acting. Although he was not popular and was not well-liked by crews, he never got tired of it and always thoroughly researched every role.
She wanted to explain something when her phone rang. When she answered the phone, a flirtatious male voice came from the other end of the line, saying, “How did you offend the Moyer family? Why did the Moyer family suddenly put out word that they would make your family disappear from Nalpure?”
Bridget hung up the phone directly.
Yet it rang again. She impatiently pressed the answer key. “I don’t know if they can have me gone, but I’ll have you gone, believe it or not.”
She heard nothing.
Sensing something wrong, Bridget glanced at the phone screen and saw that it was an unknown number
A moment later, a deep voice came from the other end of the line. “This is Nigel Moyer.”
His voice, deep and powerful, familiar and strange, made her heart twitch hard, and for a moment, she did not know what to say. Finally, she could only utter a sentence. She said, “Where are you?”
“OK. I’ll come to you now.
Bridget arrived at the airport in forty minutes, which should have taken an hour.
She walked quickly into the airport VIP lounge and immediately caught sight of the regal man.
He was a little less of a teenager’s childishness. Instead, he seemed a bit more mature and steady.
She was sure this was the man she’d been looking for for five years.
