Chapter 42
Ashton’s POV.
I was in my study, reading a pamphlet about the upcoming pup tournament. My beta, Ben, had printed the pamphlet that’ll be shared for an invitation.
We indicated the price that’d be won by the best performer for each game.
Lost in the pages of the pamphlet, I heard the knock on the door and allowed the person inside.
“Alpha, I’ve dropped the lady.” My driver announced.
That made me smile and I raised my eyes and asked. “Where does she live?”
My driver shook his head, his lips slouching as he said. “I’m afraid alpha. I didn’t get to see it. That’s because she stopped in the middle of the way when a man came and picked her up.”
Now. Those words made me frown. As if it didn’t sink in well before, I asked, “A man picked her up on the way?”
At my driver’s nod, I confirmed it. It must be none other than her fiancé.
At the irritating thought, I gestured for my driver to leave while I sank into depression.
**Three days after**
The council meeting had been
going on and I sat there, listening to the complaints coming from the council members.
“The supplies shortened overtime, alpha. There’s a huge scarcity in the supply of grains. We should do something about it.”
Mr. Cook said.
He’s one of the ranking members of the pack. Though a lot of people got changed in the council when I started ruling but he was among those that still held a seat in the court.
The alpha’s court comprised of twelve councilmen who held several positions in the pack. Mr. Cook is in charge of grains supply across the pack.
“What do you suggest we do?” I asked him but he looked into nothing, thoughtfully, before saying. “I suggest we get supplies from other pack.
Someone snorted from across the room and said. “What other pack has a good supply of grain except the Double Moon pack?” Mr. Ruphus’s voice stretched into the air.
“What? They’re a pack of wolves. We lycans don’t relate with them.” Mr. Bashar countered, fuming.
I stayed silent, examining their banter with my finger perched under my chin.
“Oh, Bashar. There you go again. Our people are getting malnourished because of lack of grain and you’re still

thinking about our relations with them?” Mr. Ruphus said.
That made Bashar rise to his feet and slam his hand over the table. “I cannot sit and watch our pack, lycans, have anything to do with ordinary wolves.”
I still don’t know the pack they’re speaking of. Hence, I ask Mr. Ruphus. “What do you know about that pack?”
He swallowed and went into the explanation.
“They view themselves as the first children of the moon goddess and they are only ruled by the direct descendants of the goddess, alpha females called enchanters…”
Hearing him say that, a memory flashed in my vision.
Flashback…
Panic set inside me, cording my muscles as I cradled the dying woman in my arms.
I could barely see through the tears rimming my eyes.
The night sky denied me the luxury of knowing the face of the woman who had saved my life. The woman I had almost killed.
She whimpered in pain, her voice echoed into the silent night as crickets chirped.
Her breathing was shallow, her eyes shutting.
“Please, stay with me…” I pled, pressing my hand into her chest.
I up, big time. I messed up, hitting the woman and her child while I drove crazily.
I was supposed to be lying here with her. We both are supposed to be dead but she chose to save my life. And her daughter’s.
“There’s nothing you can do, again.” She croaked weakly, trying to inch her hand to my face.
“Maybe I at least know you?” I managed to ask through my fear and panic.
“En…chanter… that’s
what I’m known for, dear.”
She muttered a few incoherent words before she passed out. In my arms. On top of the bridge. My car stood upside down on my side, burning into shreds as well as hers.
“Enchanter?” I asked, propping up from my seat.
“Yes, alpha. They’re
are the only ones that rule the pack.” Mr. Ruphus explained.

Does that mean the woman from that night was from that pack? Their leader? I thought, silently
watching as Mr. Ruphus said more about the pack.
They were in the countryside. Still applied some old things and laws. But they’re blessed richly when it comes to agriculture.
“Hmm…” I hummed as every member of the council watched me with curious eyes.
The truth was that we lycans and ordinary wolves have been sworn enemies for ages. Started when the wolves.
ganged up and murdered the third lycan alpha from a pack on the central coast. That had sparked a ruckus amongst
wolves and lycans.
There was a bloodbath between the two of us. Though we are all the children of the moon goddess but jealousy
swept in when the ordinary wolves wanted to assert themselves as the most powerful between the two of us.
After killing that lycan alpha to prove their point, the war sparked. The battle was fought in the abandoned field, now known as the “bloody field. So many lives were lost as the battle for survival raged.
Well, according to the story we were told, the lycans won, reducing the number of wolves. That’s why lycanwolves. are more in number than ordinary
wolves.
We sévered our ties, making lycanwolves to live together whereas other ordinary wolves co–habited.
“I think we need to trade with them.” I said and most of the men gasped, shock mirrored on their faces. “I believe. our relationship with them will change for the better,” I said.
“Alpha, this is very bad. It might cause an uproar in the pack or war between them and us again.” Another member said suggestively.
“Exactly my point.” Mr. Bashar chimed in.
I brought the screeches to a halt with a raise of my hand. Gently, I stretched to my feet, dominating them.
“Do
you all prefer our members go hungry and look malnourished?”
Some were already shaking their heads, save for those strong headed ones like Mr. Bashar.
“Great. So the majority are not in support of our pack going on grain scarcity. Hence, the trade with the Double Moon pack will be made.”
Mr. Ruphus cleared his throat and said. “Alpha, the pack doesn’t have a leader now, though their beta is the one leading the pack from the news I heard.”
Resolved in my decision. I turned to my beta, Ben, and said. “Arrange a meeting with the Double Moon pack’s beta. Let me know when it’s fixed.”
He nodded at my word and the council members rose on their feet to leave.

I could feel some of their lycans whining. Somehow I felt that this decision wasn’t a good one. I couldn’t ignore the
whining of my lycan too.
But what could go wrong?
