Ashton’s POV
By the time Dane and I got to the pub, it was a little bit empty and Heath wasn’t there too.
We calmly headed to the counter and settled ourselves there, sighing.
Dare ordered Chateau Lafite wine from the bartender and we started slugging on it.
I didn’t want to approach the topic until I was sure Heath had arrived, so we went about pep talks.
Dane told me how he arrived at the whorehouse last night where the ladies were doing a party called ” show“.
According to him, all the big alphas in the city who were unmated were there, getting an eye–full of the entertainment.
Not just alphas though, humans and other ranking wolves in the city came along. The whorehouse was big and the show was heated.
Dane went on to tell me the newest strategy he learned for lingering women,
“You know most men rarely find women’s erogenous zones. They say that’s because men are mostly concerned about their pleasure than that of women.”
I paid intent attention as he said those words. I didn’t know why but something told me I’d need this. Although I pretended like what he was saying wasn’t important to me I was secretly paying attention.
“So yesterday those whores decided to show men what makes women tick. Hence, their show. Nope, they didn’t include men. They did it amongst themselves just to show us what women love. Fuck, man, the show in itself was entirely hot. I nearly came in my pants” He rattled off, slugging his wine.
“You mean to tell me that was what you learned last night?” I had asked him and he nodded without shame, his dark eyes gleaming

Oops, I began to imagine myself doing that to Josie. Fuck, thoughts about that made my dick erect.

We then settled back in and went into the discussion I gathered them for.

“So when was it you saw alpha Incas?” I had asked Heath.
I still can’t over the fact that he went into hiding over the years. No one had seen him. Some claimed he went rogue while others didn’t. Some claimed he had a mission to accomplish, fuck I can’t tell.
I don’t even know why he’s hiding. For Heath to see him, meant the man was still alive.
Josie’s father, my stepfather is still alive.
“It was in passing, alpha,” Heath said, bringing my attention back to him. “I was in a cab in Lake Tahoe when I saw him passing with a lady on the sidewalk. And a man also. The man looked to be in his fifties. I think those people are given how they were following him.”
That got me confused.
Is he trying to create a new pack for himself? Is it a pack of rogues?
What’s his mission?
At that moment, I brought out the bullets and sprawled them on the counter.
Dane’s eyes went wild and he stared at them.
“Where did you get these from?” He asked.
I didn’t want to go into details about what happened with Josie. Dane hadn’t even seen her lately.
“Some shits went down. I got the assailants with these bullets. And it shows…”

“It’s from the military. From the squad unit specifically. The brand name on the bullets fucking proves that.” Dane rattled off, his face showed his surprise,
I had suspected that. Those assassins either got their supplies from the military or they belong there.
There’s a traitor in the camp but who could that be?
Why would they want Josie dead?
“I need you to keep your eyes out, Dane. Find out whoever is the traitor in your midst.”
Dane had nodded.
“Dudes, I’m gonna use the restroom.”
It was at that moment
that he bumped into someone.
I heard him 1 curse. “Shit!”
A woman rambled out. “I’m so sorry.
Hearing that sonorous voice, I knew it was her.
My heart jolts as I turn and see Josie, looking incredibly beautiful.
But she hasn’t moved her eyes from Dane ever since. She’s glaring at him and I fucking know why.
Dane was among those who mistreated her back in high school. Those who subjected her to ridicule. And I know right now, she’s remembering the worst night of her life.
“You?” Dane snaps, staring at Josie.
Momentarily, he brings his eyes to me, watching to know what I’ll
“Excuse me, please.“Josie says, her voice which was soft before turns harsh,
Dane shifts his form from her space and Josie moves to the counter, ordering a drink
1 inch close, wanting to feel her body close to mine, not minding Heath and Dane who were staring at me then.
“Ms. Rose?” I call lightly.
She turns and stares at me, a formal smile on her face
“Oh. Mr. Ashton, it’s you. So unbelievable. I just came to have a night out with my girls.. She points in their direction and I see three women staring at me like hawks, their eyes wide.
“Oh, that’s… great. I mutter,
“It sure is.” She smatters with a smile that’s not reaching her eyes. “If you’ll excuse me.” She hurns, turning to the bucket of wine, glasses, and wine the bartender gave her.
I watched her walk off and my heart couldn’t stop jerking, a sinking feeling in my gut.
When she’s out of earshot, Heath and Dane ask at once.
“You guys already mer?”
Slowly, Inod. “Yeah. She’s my language teacher.”
Their
eyes bulge. I know why, the Josie they see now isn’t the Josie they knew before.
Josie’s POV.
I still can’t believe I saw him again. Dane.
One of those that made living in the Yellow River pack hard for me.
Heath is also there. Seeing them makes me feel like the girl I was before. The one ridiculed to nothing.
That makes me remember Jay because he was the worst person among them all.
Jay nearly forced himself on me and I hate him so much.
I just don’t want to bump into him at all. I don’t want to see those that remind me of that neglected princess I was.
It hurts so much.
When I found out Ashton was there too, I almost stopped breathing because the hot kiss we shared last night barreled back into my mind with force.
Oh, goddess, how could I have been so loose around him?
I’m so fucked now, I think to myself as I mentally face–palmed in shame.
“Yeah. That’s the hottest gist in town.” Jane’s voice finds its way into my fogged mind,
“Really? His mate was cheating on him?” Kendra asks. I chug my wine while I listen, pushing thoughts about Ashton and his friends behind me.
“Yup. Well, the woman claimed it was a contractual mating. She was supposed to leave him after five years but Alpha Dalton refused. I bet the man has fallen in love or something.”
They’re talking about the latest town news about alpha Dalton of Moon pack and his mate.
I later join them in discussing the alpha and his unwilling mate. I must say it helped me because, by the time I looked up, I didn’t see Ashton and his friends again.
That’s a relief, phew. I sigh and relax in my seat.
“You know I’m proud of what you did there, Rose,” Tessa says, referring to how I handled Ashton.
“Me too. You put your stupid ex in his place. Never been so proud, girl.” Jane hums and I smile.
“Alright, let’s toast to that,” Kendra says, chuckling.
And my wild friends all bring their glasses into the air as Kendra matters. “To Rose who put her ex in his place!”
“Yeah!” Jane and Tessa choruses.
Then we all clink our glasses together,
1 manage a grin, thinking, if only they knew what went on last night, in my house, on my couch.
“Hi, girls!” A tiny voice interrupts us and we all look to see a lady in our age with wild salt–and–pepper hair. She waves as she
smiles.
“I’m Lilly. Mind if I join your table?” She asks,

“Sure. Of course.” Kendra chirps, allowing Lilly into our midst.
While they all start chattering, I don’t talk, only feeling dread.
But in between, Lilly keeps staring at me.
Why? I ask myself inwardly, feeling chills in my body.
