Ashton’s POV
My fingers tap frantically on the oak desk before me. I’m worried and so is Mr. Thompson.
The middle aged man is pacing his office up and down, nonstop.
After I told him the trending news about Josie had been some kinda manipulation, he became worried.
“The truth alpha Ashton is that Ms. Rose appears to be the best we have. She always speaks fluently before me. Even during the temporary teaching process with clients, she does well. That’s why I’m always conflicted when I hear otherwise regarding her professionalism….
The man rambles as he paces the length of his office.
His transparent office door allows me to peek outside at the hordes of employees walking around the building.
But I’m not just looking back to the people going about their business. I’m looking forward to seeing her.
What if she doesn’t show up?
Perhaps she has gotten a job elsewhere..?

I truly hope she hasn’t. I can’t bear the thought of her in someone else’s office or house.
I can’t bear to lose her when she’s so valuable to me.
“You knew all that and yet you choose to believe vile things said about her?” I snap as my anger rises.
Mr. Thompson stops pacing and faces me. A hint of shame flashes across his face.
“My bad, alpha.” He says lowly. “However, knowing the review came directly from you made me feel it’s true…”
“I told you that wasn’t from!” 1 bang my hand on the table and the man shudders.
Mistakenly throwing my eyes outside, I see everyone staring our way.

“Mind if we get you some coffee?” He asks me.

The coffee comes in a while later and I slug on it while waiting.

Before Mr. Thompson could finish his words the door burst open. The both of us move our eyes to the door and my jaw drops open at the sight before me.

The man steps away from his spot behind the desk and struts over to where she’s standing,
Instinctively, he envelops her in a tight hug. From the look on Josie’s face, she’s surprised at the man’s act
However, seeing Mr. Thompson taking my mate into his arms resuscitates my anger.

Moreover, Josie watches us in surprise. Then, “I got calls from you, Mr. Thompson?” She says questioningly.

Thompson starts ushering her back to the desk. Josie barely spared me a look.
As much as I want to act like I’m not hurt, I fucking am.
Remembering seeing her with another man back at the restaurant the fear of what they later did that night fills me. Same with the fear of not measuring to her standards in men….
For someone who has been with so many categories of men since our rejection, she must have high standards.
“Alpha Ashton has detailed me on what went underground in regards to your poor review…” Mr. Thompson begins.
Josie trade a confused look between me and her boss.
“What details!” She asks…
“Someone tampered with the review he wrote just to defame you. The reason for such I know not. However, I’m here seeking for your forgiveness and acceptance back into the company to work for us…and of course, the alpha.”
I barely heard what the man was saying because all my attention was channeled on the creamy thighs peeking through Josie’s

Josie seems to weigh the offer before saying, “Fine. If it’s that percent that I’ll get from now on, I’ll take my role back.”
Relief fills me but her next words surprise me

Thompson jerks to his feet quickly, nodding.
“Consider it done. Ms. Rose. He points at the door. “I’ll have them prepare the copies…”
He returns in a short while and presents the document to Josie which she signs.
I follow her in tow the moment she leaves. She didn’t even spare me a glance.
Getting outside, I decide to speak up.
“Ms. Rose” I call.
When she doesn’t stop, I weave through the people blocking me on the sidewalk and hold her still.
“How may I help you?” She snaps lowly.
I lock my eyes on her hazel ones, nearly drowning in them.
“I’m sorry once again.” I say.
“There’s no need for long talks but I’ve accepted you anyway.”
She stalls a bit, biting her back her words. Eventually, she spills.

“You don’t need to thank me. I needed to do what was right. I promise to root out the person that connived against us…
While I’m saying that, her eyes flash, Then she nods.
“That’ll be appreciated.”

My last words go beyond the problem we just resolved and have more to do with our personal lives and bond as mates.
She stares mutely at me for a while before nodding
“Fine let’s do that. Just send me the time and location.” She says, the air whipping her hair on her face.
Inwardly. I throw my hands up and kick the air in so much joy.

I watch her leave and when she’s out of sight, I howl in laughter and joy.

In a distant coffee house, Diego watched what transpired between Rose and her ex–mate.
He forced his wolf hearing abilities to work at that moment but he was too far to hear their words.
But something told him he wouldn’t love what was about to happen.

And he’s certain the man is fighting to take Rose away from him.
