Chapter 78
Josie’s POV.
“Argh!” I grumble, throwing the red colored dress over my shoulder. I hear it thump on the floor where others are.
This is the tenth dress I’ve thrown across the room as I’m searching for something to wear to the location Ashton sent me.
It’s already ten p.m. and Ashton agreed for us to meet by nine.
Gosh, why am I putting so much effort into dressing well to meet Ashton? I think to myself.
This is the first time I’ve had my hair in a French twist and notched my makeup up more. I rarely wear heavy makeup but tonight I do.
The only thing remaining is getting the dress that’ll soothe my taste.
I just want to show appreciation for what Ashton did for me. How he was able to handle the situation.
Though, I tried not to show it to him earlier at Mr. Thompson’s office but I couldn’t help it.
That’s why I agreed to meet with him tonight.
Who could have thought I’d get my position back at Almac!
Not just that but with a big offer. So, henceforth, I’ll be paid ninety–five percent of my earnings. I never saw that coming and it makes me incredibly happy.
My ringtone cuts through the silence in the room and I rush to the nightstand, picking it up.
“Hey!“I gush, panting.
“Uh, still coming?” He asks
“Of course. I’ll be there soon.” I rattle off and hang up the call after.
I browse through my closet, still looking for something to wear.
I didn’t even know it was already this late. I just dozed off after I came back from Tessa’s to see my daughter.
I guess the wine I had when I returned led to this sleep.
Sighing. I continue browsing through my closet.
I can’t find anything that’s attractive. But then this meeting isn’t for anything special. It’s just to go and show my appreciation to Ashton.
‘Keep lying to yourself.” Lady, my wolf, says.
I roll my eyes, trying to pretend that what she just said isn’t true,
I feel nervous as if I’m actually preparing for a date with…
“Our mate…yes. My wolf chimes in.
I can’t deny that’s how I feel. Like Ashton and I are going on our first date. Finally, I find a low trimmed mint–colored dress with lace around the cleavage.
Smiling, I imagine the look on Ashton’s face when he sees me wearing this tonight..
Hurriedly, I go over to the dresser and quickly fit into the dress. Checking myself out in the mirror, I smile at how the dress hugs my curves perfectly.
I hasten across the room and find my shoes and purse. Wearing them, I examine my makeup one last time before I dash outside.
The street is cool tonight but I see cabs moving up and down. I take that opportunity and board a cab.
Sitting inside, I fiddle with my fingers. Is it wise to dress up in such an exposed way in front of Ashton?
My stomach knots as anticipation bubbles inside me. Diverting my attention away, I look into the street but all I think about is how meeting with Ashton will be
Before looking to see the location Ashton sent me, the driver pulled in front of the clubs, Neon lights dance in front of it.

Clenching out of the car, I squeeze the driver’s paycheck into his hand and rush forward. To my surprise, there was a long quelle of men and women waiting to be examined by the bouncers
Heck, no. I can’t make it in easily with this kind of queue,
On that, I bring out my phone and call Ashton quickly.
“Mr. Ashton. I’m really sorry I can’t make it in there on time there’s a long line out here.” I prattle out, not taking a break.
“Just wait. I’ll be out soon. Ashton says, hanging up.
While I wait for him, I look over at the bouncers as they frisk clubbers.
Suddenly, my skin prickles and I dart my eyes to the door, only to see Ashton walking out in his regal steps.
His hair was perfectly trimmed. He has a smirk on his face as he approaches me.
I marvel at the fact that such a handsome alpha ignores the glaring eyes of the women in the line just to reach out for me.
Taking my hand, he leads me inside without being questioned by the bouncers. Perks of being an alpha I guess.
The club is alive with crowds of dancers, smokers, and whatnot. But it’s not a debauchery one like the one I went to last time with my girls.

Leading me to a booth in the VIP section, I take a seat.
“You look beautiful…” He says, making me smile. “And you’re wearing my best color.”
“Really? I never knew about that.” I remark politely
“Well, now you do.” He takes a sit beside me.
The waiter struts over to our side, asking.
“What would you want, alpha?”
Ashton signals for me to order and I do.
” on the beach, please..” I say and the guy bows.
Ashton goes ahead, ordering a whiskey.
As the waiter leaves, he leans close to me and whispers.
“Never knew you’re the cocktail type.”
“Sometimes the need for it arises, Mr. Ashton.” I beam.
After a while, the waiter returns to our table with our drinks,
Ashton and 1 launch into a discussion, making jokes and laughing heavily like normal people.
I never know he was this jovial. I double over in laughter when he cracks another joke.
I love this moment. Nothing about our past lives was said. We only live in the moment, enjoying the bliss of it.
In my moment of laughter, I mistakenly knock my glass and the drink pours on Ashton’s shirt.

My eyes go wide and I gasp.
“In so sorry. I didn’ı
“It’s okay. I understand….” He says.
However, I wasn’t having it. I dig my hand into my purse searching for my handkerchief. I find it and lean close to him.
My body presses into his as I reach for his shirt.
Dabbing his shirt, I look into his gray orbs. lost in its depths.
My body melts with arousal. I can feel the heat building in the core.
I can’t think.
My wolf quickly rises on her legs, purring
I didn’t even know when the top of Ashton’s buttons came undone, exposing his creamy, hairy chest.
My stomach knots as I feel his striated, chiseled, muscled chest under the pads of my fingers.
“Josie.” He calls, leaning close,
It’s only then that I noticed I’m now teasing his nipple with the handkerchief.
Do it, just do it, I scream in my head for him to kiss me..
Tension builds between us, it can actually be cut with a knife.
I can’t feel myself just this man and my desire for him.
Right now, I’m touching his nipple with my finger, making it hard.
Ashton sucks in a breath while I tease his nipple. I don’t know where the courage comes from.
As he leans close, he touches my lips with his fingers, wanting to kiss me.
My heart somersaults, waiting for his kiss.
Everything else happening in the cluby fades around us. Just us in our own little world.
“Ding!!” The sound bells ring through the speakers and everyone in the club shouts.
Ashton and I gasp, pulling away from each other, only to realize that the eyes of all the people in the club are on us.
“That’s our scapegoat couple!” Everyone shouts and blood drains from my face.
Immediately, people rush to where Ashton and I are, dragging us to the dancefloor. What’s going on? I think to myself.
What do they mean by the scapegoat comple?
None of it all makes sense. I feel dread in the pit of my stomach as we both stand on the stage, all eyes on us.
What the hell is going to happen now? I wonder, wringing my fingers together in fear.
