“Uhh…guys?” I stammer as my friends, Tessa, Jane, and Kendra all stare at Ashton.
Did I forget the day we all celebrated how rudely I acted towards Ashton?
Well, now the man in question is in here with me, watching my friends who haven’t removed their eyes off of him.
Embarrassment finds its way inside me, tainting my cheeks red.

Ashton steps forward, outstretching his hand.
“Nice to meet you all,” he hums, shaking hands with my friends.
Hell, Tessa and Jane are still wary of him and I understand. They sure don’t want the man to come back and wreck havoc in my life.
The previous air of surprise returns and they all chorus in happiness as Kendra reveals the chocolate cake they hid behind the door.
“Congratulations girl, you killed it.”
My heart blooms as life comes back into it. They scared the shit out of me when they called me earlier.
It was Tessa who called and said something terrible happened.
Thoughts and possibilities filled my mind. I thought something might have happened to my daughter.

Tessa’s gaze only softens briefly before returning to their hard depths.
We all settle in the living room with Jane putting on loud music.

“Thanks, Tessa. I appreciate your words.” I scrub her arms but Tessa pulls me in for a tight, bear hug.
“You’re a darling.” she kisses my hair and breaks away.
“So, let’s return to our mini celebration of you becoming so famous in the city!” She chirps, dragging me back outside.
As soon as we arrive there, all the breath remaining in my system leaves me as I take in the other man in the room.
Tessa turns to me and only shrugs her shoulders.
My goddess, what is this night going to turn into? I ask myself watching both men oozing power from the looks they give each other.
