Chapter 94
Ashton’s POV
The party was going well was enjoying it- Josie’s friends are good entertainers even though I know two of the three ladies don’t really like me,
Regardless, I bask in the fun, watching them but sniffing Josie. I knew when she couldn’t get her eyes off of me. I had mine on hers too until she suddenly sprung up from her seat and rushed into the bedroom.
Her bedroom.
She was practically looking like a deer in headlights when she rushed out, making me wonder what must have happened.
Well, the joyous atmosphere was killed the moment a knock came on the front door. Josie’s friend, Kendra attended to it
And when I saw him enter, announcing his presence through his aura, my mood changed.
My biggest rival is here. The beta of the Double Moon pack. The one that rejected my trade proposal.
He stands still when he sees me sitting on the sofa and 1 pin my eyes on him, daring him.
For what feels like forever we stand gazing at each other with a heated gaze I don’t know when Josie returns to the living
room
But hearing her voice now rattles my whole being
“D” She calls, giving the mother the opportunity to break our stare.
His lips curl up in a huge smile and I watch him dart across the room and stop in front of Josie.
“Hey babe” His , scratchy voice hums.
! I hate the way his eyes are all on her, studying every inch of skin that’s perfection.
“Hi, Josie waves at him, smiling.
I hate that she’s smiling for him.
My lycan surges forward, scrapping his fangs over my skin, wanting a way out to tear off this fuc ker’s head.
Well, that doesn’t happen. Instead, I watch them banter.
“Tessa told me about the little party going on here and I decided it’s fit to be here for my girlfriend.
I growl at the back of my throat hearing him call Josie his girlfriend. Bullshit!
Fuming, I pull my hands into fists, watching as my eyes flash…
Oh, it was Tessa that called him. I thought as much. I know the lady doesn’t like me..
The way she looks at me says a lot about that.
Still watching, Josie veers her head to Tessa who’s standing beside her. The expression on Josie’s face reveals she isn’t aware
Tessa invited him.
“That’s awesome. I mean having you here will add to the fun, right?”
My hope goes down hearing Josie say those words. I was expecting she’d show him his way out but this?
Hell, no.
“Incredible. Congratulations, babe.” He says and closes the space between them.
Before my eyes, he leans in, cups Josie’s chin and presses his lips on hers
“No! She’s ours! My mate. Mine. All mine! My lycan growls, prowling in rage.
I don’t know my growls are now echoing across the room until I feel pairs of eyes on me
Closing my eyes on Josie’s. I feel pain that I’ve never felt before and I know she can feel it oozing from me.
“Sorry,” 1 hum and bring my head down in shame.
Like a switch, the air clouding the room changes when Tessa says.
“So guys. Let’s toast to our famous, Ms. Rose!!!
“Yeah!! They all chorus except me.
With blurred eyes. I watch Tessa hurry into the kitchen and return with a tray filled with glasses.
While they are merry, I feel pain.
It’s all I can do not to break down in front of them.
Manageably, I take the glass Kendra offers and murmur a “thanks to her.
1 dart my eyes around, searching for her. And that’s where she is in the arms of Diego.
That has his arm circling around her waist.
Tessa barrels to my side after filling other’s glasses with shots.
“Hope you’re still enjoying the party?” She beams at me.
I want to curse her but I hold myself back. It won’t be gentlemanly of me to do it. She’s my mate’s friend after all
“Yeah, I guess.” I rattle off.
She beams even wider as she fills my cup.
Looking back up at me, she remarks. “Good. That’s the goal.” She winks and walks away.
Tessa rests the bottle of Chardonnay on the small coffee table and takes her own glass.
“Tonight is for our strong, champion friend, Rose who has made lemonade out of the lemons life gave her…” she looks at Josie
I marveled at the adoration in the eyes of Josie’s friends. They must have come a long way.
pauses and
“When we met Josie five years ago, she was practically lean, doing community service not as punishment though but out of the goodness of her heart. I knew she wasn’t ordinary.”
“She goes on to confirm my suspicions when she took the exam to join Almac, learn languages, and become highly useful..”
Jane, who’s by my right–hand side is dabbing her eyes as if in tears. She nods at Tessa’s words.
“And she smashed the exams with good grades. Embarked on a reading and learning journey until she became a teacher.” “Today that lean lady I saw doing community service is among the top language teachers in the whole city. Tessa finishes.
“Yay!”
Jane and Kendra hum..
“To more wins in life, Rose. Tessa lastly says.
“To more wins!!!”
They all echo except me. I can’t move my mouth after hearing what Tessa said. A newfound respect brims me as I take in my
male.
She might look small but she’s no doubt a girl with big dreams.
My lycan prowls at the thought, watching her as he stands on his hind legs.
Everyone clinks glasses together and dabbles into a more fun dance.
Tessa, the crazier one among them puts on loud music and they all start dancing
Diego clasps Josie in his arms rolling his waist in line with the music.
I watch her pearly white teeth as she smiles. I watch the beam in her eyes. The joy she exudes.
And I wish to also be among the things that make her happy.
Sitting down, inspecting them all but it comes to a point where I can’t take it any longer because I might do something crazy. And that’s when I catch Diego sucking Josie’s lips again.
For the second time tonight, he’s staking a claim on what’s mine.
Surging to my feet with speed, I weave through the women dancing and pause slightly before Diego and Josie.
1 hammer my furious gaze at Diego but the only smirks.
Briefly glancing at Josie, I make my way out of the chaos.
Storming outside into the somewhat cool night, I hear someone panting behind me as I make my way down the porch steps.
“Ashton!”
My body freezes at the sound of her voice. Though my heart paused, it has now picked up speed.
The night air is hushed and it’s as if the nocturnal birds fell silent at the sound of her voice too, giving me the big opportunity to hear her hammering heart.
I don’t turn to look at her because I know all I’ll feel is pain.
“I just wanna say thank you. One last time.” She pauses again. Then. “I couldn’t have made it today if not for your help.” When I figure she has no more words to say, I nod. Without a glance at her, I move away as my heart shrinks from pain. Moving into my Escalade, I drive out into the night.
I don’t have any idea where I should go but I know I need something to get these pain and anger I feel Driving back into the buzzing part of the city, I know what I can kill my sorrows with and I pack my car going for it…
